JULIO LARRAZ (Havana, Cuba 1944)
Julio Larraz, a realist painter, is considered on the international scene as the greatest exponent of contemporary Caribbean art. With his original representations he combines a realistic vision that is not generically social, but rigorously ethical, which can be found in his extraordinary figurations, with an impeccable pictorial technique, as well as in the density of the contents that are implicit and referable to the sociological and ethical aspects of his conception of the world and history. Larraz confirms that he remains, in any case, an artist unmistakably linked to his origins, to the authentic sense of a passionate commitment to political and social life situations, to the conception of an art that is avowedly representative and to continually rework motifs and forms of inspiration based on interior poetic instances.
