PATRIZIA GUERRESI MAIMOUNA (Vicenza 1951)
She is an Italian-Senegalese multimedia artist. Starting from conceptual experiences related to Body Art, she approaches her image with sculptural means to Greek mythology and very personal forms. Later she will focus mainly on photography, video and installations. In her artistic journey she has developed a fascinating and introspective vision on the multiple perspectives of her life within two cultures: European and African. She has literally connected these worlds through her commitment to Sufi spirituality. Using a hybrid visual language, she communicates the beauty of cultural diversity, while contemplating the many issues related to contemporary life in a multi-ethnic society. Islamic art and literature provide an inexhaustible source of inspiration for her work, with their mystical revelations, metaphors, intuitions, sacred verses and thaumaturgical powers. Her artworks reaffirm a universally recognizable feminine energy that translates into spiritual evolution, while at the same time decontextualizing and decolonizing the various stereotypical ideas of women in the Islamic world.
